National Knit in Public Day June 14th 

Join in the fun of National Knit in Public Day with Mary Lue's as we share our passion for knitting. Grab your lawn chairs and your knitting and head to the Betsy-Tacy Society House ( 332 Center St.) to be a part of their Victorian Lawn Party on Saturday, June 14th.  We will be gathering to knit from 2:00 until 4:00.  If the weather is bad we will knit inside.  There will also be costumed actors, ice cream, a bake sale, plus games and crafts to entertain little ones.  Victorian dress is encouraged but not required and bake sale donations will be accepted with proceeds benefiting the society. So don't be shy with your knitting- Knit Loud & Proud!

Anita RenfroeOur next stitch theme night will be Tuesday June 17th. 6:00-8:00pm.  We will be watching comedian Anita Renfroe crack us up again in her newest DVD.  So bring your project and be careful of dropped stitches as you laugh so hard you cry.  Refreshments will be served and don't forget to sign up  for the door prizes!

 Embellishment Work shops

One day a month we will be having embellishment workshops. Bring in a finished garment or felted purse to add some pizzazz to. We will be needle felting, beading and embroidering to create unique one of a kind works of art. Workshop fee includes materials used in class. You may bring one large project or two small projects per workshop. If you plan on needle felting you need to bring a needle felting tool.

Skill Level: Beginner Age 7 and up

Spring Class Schedule

 

KNIT FLOWER EMBELLISHMENT

Shown on the "Knit in the Round" hat above.  Fun and easy way to use up small amounts of worsted weight yarn.  They can be made into pins or attached to garments.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need size 7 needles and a darning needle.

Skill Level:  Beginner Age 8 and up

KNIT ANIMAL TOY

Make a cute stuffed animal for the babies and kids in your life.  Make a few to have on hand for last minute gifts.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need washable worsted weight yarn (we used one skein of Cinnabar), size 7 needles, darning needle and small amount of DMC thread for face.

BEGINNER KNITTING

Learn basic knitting skills while you create a sampler scarf.  You will learn to cast-on, knit, purl and cast off.  You will need size 8 needles and a worsted weight yarn for practice.  Instructor will guide students to appropriate yarn for actual project.  (In conjunction with Community Ed.)

Skill Level:  Beginner Age 8 and up

LEARN TO KNIT SOCKS

Make a pair of short cotton socks that rock!  Learn how to master double point needles to knit in the round, turn a heel, and shape the toe.  You will also learn the magical Kitchener Stitch to seam the toe together.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need fingering weight yarn (sample was made with Panda Cotton), size 2 DPN's (double point needles) and a darning needle.

HAND DYING WORKSHOP

Learn to hand dye your own yarn!  Hand painted yarns are all the rage right now and you can create your own dyed sock or scarf yarn.  You pick your own color scheme.  This class is great for all ages.  Bring an old bath towel and your imagination.  All supplies included.

FINGERLESS GLOVES/LEARN "MAGIC LOOP"

Get in on the fashion trend of fingerless gloves and whip up a pair or two.  You can make them on double pointed needles or learn the Magic Loop technique using one long circular needle.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need worsted weight yarn (model was made with Miski) and size 7 needles, either DPN's or 40" circular.

BEGINNER CROCHET

Learn basic stitches of crochet while you create a beautiful sampler scarf with the yarn of your choice.  Bring a size I hook and any worsted weight yarn for practice.  Instructor will guide students to appropriate yarn for actual project.  (In conjunction with Community Ed.)

FELTED BRACELETS - KNIT OR CROCHET

Make up a few of these cool bracelets using small amounts of bulky wool yarn.  We will knit or crochet them and then felt them in class.  Once felted, they can be embellished with beads or needle felted on.  Fun for all ages (a good class to take together with a child).  Students need to know the basics of either knitting or crocheting for this class.  You will need bulky wool yarn and size I crochet hook or size 11 knitting needles.  You will also need to bring an old towel.

Skill Level:  Beginner Age 7 and up

GUILT-FREE CUPCAKES & DONUTS

Satisfy your sweet tooth while using up your stash.  This class is pure fun.  Using small amounts of different yarns you can create life-like treats.  Use them as pin cushions or just for display on a counter top.  Students need to know basic knitting to take this class.  You will need Worsted weight yarn for the bottoms and fun fashion yarns for the frosting tops, needles should be between size 6-8.

FELTED KNIT BASEBALL CAP

Stitch and Pitch is just around the corner.  Get ready to go to the game with this sporty project.  You can even make it to match your felted baseball purse.  You will learn the knitted cast-on, mirrored decreases and I-cords.  There is even an optional ponytail cutout.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need bulky wool yarn that will felt, size 11 - 24" circular needle and size 11 DPN's.

LACEY SHRUG

Want to learn the basics of knitting lace?  Make a cute easy shrug as you learn to combine yarn overs, knit two together, and slip, knit, slip knit stitch over.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need worsted weight yarn, size 8 needles and size 10 1/2 needles.

TOP-DOWN BABY CARDIGAN

Knit this sweet little sweater for the new baby in your life.  Learn the top-down concept on a small project.  Make for a boy or girl just by omitting the lace eyelet stitch and inserting garter stitch or seed stitch for variation.  You'll need worsted weight yarn and size 8 - 24" circular needles plus a couple of stitch holders.

FAST TOP-DOWN SWEATER

LEARN CONTINENTAL KNITTING

Learn to knit faster (and easier on the hands/wrists).  Continental knitting (sometimes called "picking") is where the yarn is held in the left hand and "picked" with the working needle.  By holding the yarn in the left hand, you avoid dropping the needle to loop the yarn leading to a faster, more even work.  You will need practice yarn in a worsted weight and size 8 needles.

CROCHET TANK TOP

This fun top can be worn with a button down shirt as a vest or when the weather turns warmer with a thin tank underneath.  It works up quickly with a few simple stitches.  We used a fun ribbon yarn in our model but any worsted weight yarn will work.  You will need size H hook.  Students need to know the basics of crochet before taking this class.

PETAL VEST

Knit yourself a fabulous cotton vest for Spring and Summer.  Come and challenge yourself to learn some new techniques, mirrored decreases, 3-needle bind off, lace, and modular construction (pick up and knit).  Students need to know beyond the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need worsted weight yarn, size 8 needles, and both 16" and 24" size 7 circular needles.

EUROFLAX MARKET BAG

Our landfills are overflowing with plastic bags.  Make an eco friendly reusable market bag to use when you do your grocery shopping.  Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need one hank of worsted weight "Euroflax" linen and size 9 needles.

Learn to knit lace and make a cute pair of summer socks. If you are a first time sock knitter or just want to learn how to go beyond the basic sock this class is for you.   Students need to know the basics of knitting before taking this class.  You will need 2 balls of Panda Cotton yarn, size 1 DPN’s and stitch markers.

CLASSES FOR KIDS


KIDS KNIT CAMP

One week of fun!  Kids will learn the basics of knitting and make three projects along the way.  A recycled grocery bag, headband and felting.  Ages 8 and up.  One session each day from 10:00am to 11:30am.  Cost does not include supplies.  Supply list will be available before camp and cost will be minimal.  (Class registration is through Community Education).

Camp Week: June 16-20   10-11:30AM         Cost:  $35

KIDS CROCHET CAMP
One week of fun!  Students will learn the basic stitches that will allow them to complete three projects through the course of this week.  Students will make a bag, wol toy, and learn felting.  Cost does not include supplies.  A complete supply list will be given to students on the first day of camp and the cost of additional supplies will be minimal.  (Class registration is through Community Education).

Camp Week: July 14-18     10-11:30am       Cost: $35



 One Piece Sweater

Make this stylish sweater out of the chunky yarn of your choice.  It's knit from back to front and seamed only under the arms and sides.  Top it off with some very cool buttons and you're done.  We're pretty sure you'll want to make a couple of these out of different yarns.  Peggy has made two already and is working on her third out of a bulky weight cotton for Spring!  Stop in any time for the pattern, pick your yarn and we will help you along the way.

We will offer private classes for groups of 3 and up.  Just let us know what you want to learn and what time works for you.

Sign-up deadlines are one week prior to the start of the class. You will be notified of class cancellation at this time as well. Sorry, but we are not able to offer make-up classes if you are unable to attend.

Class fee does not include cost of materials unless otherwise noted. Supplies may be purchased prior to the class at a 10% discount with proof of registration slip.

No refunds will be issued without two weeks prior notice to class start date.

As always, please feel free to come in for any help you might need or just bring your project and sit and stitch awhile.
